Emily Hurd: SONGS

I'm Not A Road

(Daytime Fireflies, Winter 2008)
Roads carry you today, get you on your way, see you through the cold.
Watch your face, smiling as you go. Ain’t it sad. I’m not a road.

Shares everything you view, everything you do, everything you hold.
All the time you’re gonna bestow. Ain’t it sad. I’m not a road.

Sees you into New York, out to Jersey shores, onto Buffalo.
Gets you through all those highs and lows. Ain’t it sad. I’m not a road.

Drives you beside the steel, abandoned tracks and fields, steady as you roll.
Knows your pain, surely, you suppose. Ain’t it sad. I’m not a road.

Feels how to make you sing. Scenery it brings could move you til you’re old.
But it don’t care whether you come home. Ain’t it sad. I’m not a road.

Ain’t it sad. I’m not a road.
