Long Lost Ghosts

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

I was grown in backyards under lines of clothes.

Linen sheets in long rows, I thought they were ghosts.

And they were, in my mind.

You were made by main drags somewhere down the street.

You thought my lips were honey, and my hair was winter wheat.

And it was, in your mind.

Now I’m on my way by Greyhound Bus. I have come for you because

I thought you were all there was. And you are.

You came back from school with anger in your eyes,

So I gave you a kiss that I hoped would save your life.

And it did, in your mind.

In the field, the sun hung colors from above.

I thought holding you was the first time I made love.

And it was, in my mind.

Now I’m on my way by Greyhound Bus. I have come for you because

I thought you were all there was. And you are.

All my flying days are gone to dust.  In these times, I’ve come to trust

That those days were made for us, and they are still.  They are still.

When the bus comes, shoo the pigeons from your toes.

We’ll meet in the moonlight, just like long lost ghosts.

Now I’m on my way by Greyhound Bus. I have come for you because

I thought you were all there was. And you are. And you are. And you are.

A Lot Like

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

I want someone with your smile. I want someone with your laugh.

I want someone with your eyes. Do you know someone like that?

Somebody who has your taste.  Somebody who shares your views.

Somebody who lights my face. Somebody a lot like you.

While you look for someone, I will secretly

Hope you find your someone is a lot like me…is a lot like me.

I want someone with your smarts. I want someone with your tact.

I want someone with your heart. Do you know someone like that?

Somebody with your soft skin. Somebody with your good moods.

Somebody who lets me in. Somebody a lot like you.

While you look for someone, I will secretly

Hope you find your someone is a lot like me…is a lot like me.

I know that your someone will be right for you.

Wouldn’t you consider: I am someone too.  I am someone too.

I want someone with your needs. I want someone with your past.

I want someone with your dreams. Do you know someone like that?

Somebody who’s seen my lows. Somebody who knows my news.

Somebody who I love most. Somebody a lot like you.

While you look for someone, I will openly

Hope you find your someone is a lot like me…is a lot like me. Is a lot like me.

My Favorite Part

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

This is the part where we are beginning.

Enter the skyline, brilliant and bright.

Cue up the records til they are spinning;

This is our theme song tonight.

And here is the talk that flows like a river.

Here is the smile you got me to shine.

Here is the line you like to deliver;

It still gets me every time, ‘cause

Our love tells like a story. It held me right from the start.

I watch it play out before me, and each day is my favorite part.

This is the part where secrets unravel.

Enter a fire, dim all the lights.

Cue up the sound of cars kicking gravel;

This is our theme song tonight.

And here are the stairs we quickly ascended.

Here is the room where clothes like to fly.

Here is the kiss I’m sure we invented;

It still gets me every time, ‘cause

Our love tells like a story. It held me right from the start.

I watch it play out before me, and each day is my favorite part.

This is the part before the finale.

Enter a blanket, tuck it in tight.

Cue up the crickets from down the alley;

This is our theme song tonight.

And here is the sleep that’s taking us over.

Here is me holding your body to mine.

Here is you dreaming a while on my shoulder;

It still gets me every time, ‘cause

Our love tells like a story. It held me right from the start.

I watch it play out before me, and each day is my favorite part.

It tells like a story.  It held me right from the start.

I watch it play out before me, and each day is my favorite part.

I Love You Too

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

So if I’ve been taking this all wrong, it’s because we’re standing here so long.

And you hold me tighter when I ask if I should go.

I am gonna take that as a no.

So if I’ve been taking this too far, it’s because I see what’s on your heart.

And you just smile when I ask if you’ve something to profess.

I am gonna take that as a yes.

Well, I love you too.  Why not start with that.

I love you too.  Would you like to say it back?

No one likes to be the first to say the first I love you.

Let’s skip past that part and right on to I love you too.

So if I’ve been taking this too fast, it’s because the evening’s almost past.

And you kiss me when I ask if we should take it slow.

I am gonna take that as a no.

I’ve been taking it like this, all because your thoughts are hard to miss.

And you just blush when I ask if you like my brand new dress.

I am gonna take that as a yes.

I love you too.  Why not start with that.

I love you too.  Would you like to say it back?

No one likes to be the first to say the first I love you.

Let’s skip past that part and right on to I love you too.

So we wait at the door with our eyes to the floor,

Shifting weight back and forth on our shoes.

We could do this all night, but we might save some time

If we said what our minds want us to.

So if I’ve been taking this all wrong, it’s because we’re standing here so long.

And you hold me tighter when I ask if I should go.

I am gonna take that as a no.

I love you too.  Why not start with that.

I love you too.  Would you like to say it back?

No one likes to be the first to say the first I love you.

Let’s skip past that part and right on to I love you too.

I love you too.  I love you too.

Silent Conversations

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

I can hear what you say, not by ear, but by how it makes me feel.

Every word is as real as the way it’s heard.

And I, oh I, understand our heart-to-hearts, with hands.

Our bodies are well, well spoken, our fingertips: well, well read.

If ever your heart is broken, I’ll say it like this instead.

Silent conversations come in loud and clear.

I can hear what you mean, not by ear, but by how it seems to show.

Even when you don’t know, I know what you meant.

‘Cause I, oh I, understand the talking with our hands.

Our bodies are well, well spoken, our fingertips: well, well read.

If ever your heart is broken, I’ll say it like this instead.

Silent conversations come in loud and clear.

You tell me a lot by holding my gaze. You tell me a lot by holding my place.

You tell me a lot by holding my waist. You tell me a lot by holding.

Our bodies are well, well spoken, our fingertips: well, well read.

If ever your heart is broken, I’ll say it like this instead.

Silent conversations come in loud and clear.

I Won't Tell A Soul

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

I told it to the bright star. I told it to the skylark.

I told it to the city lights.

That wind that’s blowin’ round you, well it knows all about you.

I told it everything tonight.

Isn’t it obvious, and isn’t it plain?

Isn’t it lining up inside of your brain?

I would like to like you like you know the world’s been told.

If you’d like to like me, likely I won’t tell a soul.

I told it to the lone pines. I told it to the phone lines.

I told it to the barren field.

That dawn that’s almost breaking, well it knows you’re amazing.

I told it everything I feel.

Isn’t it obvious, and isn’t it clear?

Aren’t the words piling up inside of your ears?

I would like to like you like you know the world’s been told.

If you’d like to like me, likely I won’t tell a soul.

I told it to the red rose. I told it to my bed post.

I told it to my tired shoes.

That sun that sits above you, it knows somebody loves you.

And I hope it handed you the news.

Isn’t it obvious, and is it too hard

To see what’s welling up inside of my heart?

I would like to like you like you know the world’s been told.

If you’d like to like me, likely I won’t tell a soul.

I would like to like you like you know the world’s been told.

If you’d like to like me, likely I won’t tell a soul.

Irreparably Yours

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

You broke my heart in a nice way. You broke my spirit of its frown.

I’m broken down upon your highway. Ain’t flaggin’ anybody down.

Ain’t flaggin’ anybody down.

You cut the strings that held my dreams down. So they bent to you like bloom to sun.

You did so well by me, it seems now there ain’t no way to be undone.

Love like that don’t come undone.

I do declare a disaster. We waged us the happiest war.

You ruined me for everything after you. I am irreparably yours.

You broke my heart in a nice way. You broke the spell the weighed me down.

I never thought in all of my days, I’d find my freedom being bound.

I’m feeling free because I’m bound.

You busted all the rules I’d wrote down on the well-kept pages in my mind.

Since your love, I don’t even know how I ever knew a different kind.

I’ll never know a different kind.

I do declare a disaster. We waged us the happiest war.

You ruined me for everything after you. I am irreparably yours.

Last night, we broke into a hard laugh. The hardwood floor broke our fall.

We break us down to all the parts that don’t need much fixin’ after all.

Don’t need much fixin’ after all.

I do declare a disaster. We waged us the happiest war.

You ruined me for everything after you. I am irreparably yours.

Brand New

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

Last year’s eyes gave this year’s look and opened mine just like a book.

Can’t believe how long it took to see.

Last year’s hand gave this year’s grip and interlaced my fingertips.

Can’t believe he’s giving it to me.

Last year’s feet took this year’s walk, strolling slow around my block.

Don’t know when we ever talked this long.

Last year’s lips gave this year’s kiss; don’t know how I ever missed

That I had me a man like this all along.

Brand new, brand new—never have I looked at you. Never have I looked at you this way.

Brand new, brand new—never have I been with you. Never have I been with you til today.

Hearts that flutter, tongues that stutter, I have fallen for no other

In the way that I know I just fell.

Wanting, pacing, my mind racing, can’t believe how much I’m craving

To be in the arms I know so well.  Well, well, well…

Last year’s voice said this year’s words. Don’t know how it’d not occurred

They’re like none I’ve ever heard before.

Last year’s man is this year’s crush. Look at how my cheeks do flush.

I’m smiling as he opens up my door.

Brand new, brand new—never have I looked at you. Never have I looked at you this way.

Brand new, brand new—never have I been with you. Never have I been with you til today.

Skipping Stones

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

Sun down, rundown, I’m gonna come down to the riverside.

Get me set free.  I’m gonna let the water steal my mind.

Everybody needs someplace to dream.

And everybody dreams the way they need.

See you tonight. You won’t be there, but in my mind we make a good pair.

When you’re not near, you make an appearance in my dreams.

See you tonight, down by the shore, pickin’ up right where we were before.

You were about to tell me you found your love for me.

Sit tight, midnight.  I’m gonna give my cravings to the waves.

Care to share you? I’m gonna dare to fantasize your face.

Everybody wants someplace to think.

And everybody thinks the way they want.

See you tonight. You won’t be there, but in my mind we make a good pair.

When you’re not near, you make an appearance in my dreams.

See you tonight, down by the shore, pickin’ up right where we were before.

You were about to tell me you found your love for me.

By the moon, I go down to the river, skipping stones.

Thoughts of you will show up to deliver me your company; never will I ever be alone.

Easy Call

(Long Lost Ghosts, 2012)

Like a family that weathers ‘neath a blue sky that stalls,

Like the chance to be better, it was an easy call.

Like a dollar that stretches on a weekend that crawls,

Like a gift with no catches, it was an easy call.

Is it any wonder that I’ve come to love you so?

I call ‘em like I see ‘em, and I’ve seen enough to know:

Anyone can call you baby. Anyone can call you doll.

You’re the one that calls me crazy, and wants me through it all.

It was an easy call. You were an easy call.

Like a land from a high beam on a day on the ball,

Like a shot at a pipe dream, it was an easy call.

Like a talk on the level on a walk in the fall,

Like a reason to revel, it was an easy call.

It’s a world made of lovers calling for someone to need.

Between you and the others, it was always clear to me:

Anyone can call you baby. Anyone can call you doll.

You’re the one that calls me crazy, and wants me through it all.

It was an easy call. You were an easy call.

Anyone can call you baby. Anyone can call you doll.

You’re the one that calls me crazy, and wants me through it all.

You were an easy call.
